Mr. Jonathan Mark Kenoyer

Biography:

Professor in Anthropology, has been teaching archaeology and ancient technology at the University of Wisconsin, Madison since 1985. He has worked on excavations and ethnoarchaeological studies in both Pakistan and India since 1975. He has served as Field Director and Co-Director of the Harappa Archaeological Research Project since 1986.He has a special interest in ancient technologies and crafts, socio-economic and political organization as well as religion. These interests have led him to study a broad range of cultural periods in South Asia as well as other regions of the world, including China, Japan, Korea, Oman, and West Asia in general. His work has been featured in the National Geographic Magazine and Scientific American and on the website www.harappa.com.

Conference on Mohenjodaro, & [...]

The Indus with its ancient courses and floodplains gave birth to flourishing cultures in the southwest of Pakistan, these ultimately developed in to a great civilization. Indus Valley Civilization boasts of the flourishing urban centers; the Bronze Age site of Mohenjodaro, considered as a marvel of town planning, is situated on the banks of river Indus, in province of Sindh, in present day Pakistan. National Fund for Mohenjodaro, in collaboration with the Sindh Government is jointly organizing a Conference on Mohenjodaro, & Indus Valley Civilization in the month of February 2017, on the site of Mohenjodaro. The conference aims at discussing new research on the Indus Valley Civilization, the issues related to the safeguarding the archaeological remains of Mohenjodaro, and the presentation of the site. The conference is attended by the scholars from all over the World, and shall be represented by the high level government functionaries, to open a dialogue for achieving best possible results towards the promotion of the archaeological heritage of the country.

Dr Sophie Méry

Biography:

Director of Research at CNRS (UMR6566, Rennes), and Contractual Teacher at Panthéon-Sorbonne University (Paris 1) and Rennes 2, Dr Sophie Méry defended in 1991 her Doctorate (PhD), and in 2009 her habilitation (HDR) at Paris 1, Oriental Archaeology Department.

She is accreditated for the direction of Doctoral Students.
Among Research administration, general-interest functions, and editing activities Dr Méry is Member of Reviewing Committee Journal Paléorient, and Reviewer for Arabian Archaeology and Epigraphy, the Proceedings of the Seminar for Arabian Studies, le Journal des Africanistes, le Journal des Américanistes, Technique et Cultures.

Dr. Aurore Didier

Biography

Dr. Aurore Didier is permanent researcher at the French National Center for Scientific Research, in charge of the ‘Indus-Balochistanprogramme’, and director of the French Archaeological Mission in the Indus Basin. She specializes on the societies, material cultures and interactions in southern Pakistan and adjoining areas during the protohistoric period with a focus on the Bronze Age and the Indus civilization (2500-1900 BCE). She has conducted excavations and explorations in Kech-Makran (Balochistan, Pakistan) in 2001-2006 under the leadership of Roland Besenval and collaborated with noted archaeologist Jean-François Jarrige who excavated the sites of Mehrgarh, Nausharo and Pirak in Balochistan. She has also participated to various excavations in Turkmenistan, Sultanate of Oman and India.

Ms. Ann Andersson

Biography

Since 2010 Ann Andersson (MA, University of Copenhagen) has carried out research on the bead material from the Danish Archaeological Mission to Failaka, Kuwait, conducted by Moesgaard Museum, Denmark, with the generous support of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters, Kuwait. Ann is responsible for the analysis and publication of the bead corpus from the Danish excavations, which has resulted in the recent publication of the bead material from the 2008‐2012 excavations at Tell F6 (Andersson in Højlund & Abu‐Laban 2016). In the future Ann will be publishing her studies of the beads found during the Danish excavations in 1958‐1963 at Tell F3 and Tell F6, along with those from the Danish excavations of 2012‐2017 at Tell F3. Since 2005, Ann has worked at archaeological projects in Jordan (University of Copenhagen) and Qatar (University of Copenhagen), as a ceramicist, finds registrar and field archaeologist.

Mr. Shinde Vasant Shivram

Biography:

Prof. Vasant Shinde, presently Vice-Chancellor of Deccan College, Post-Graduate and Research Institute, Deemed University, Pune is a world renowned archaeologist and one of the foremost scholars in South Asia.

Prof. Vasant Shinde (born on 15^th June 1956) obtained his B.A. in History from the University of Poona, and a Master’s Degree (First Class) in Archaeology from Deccan College, Deemed University (at that time affiliated to the University of Poona). He subsequently completed his Ph.D. in Protohistoric Archaeology on Early Settlements in Central Tapi Basin from the same University.

Mr. Dennys Frenez

Biography

Dr. Dennys Frenez – Ph.D in Archeology from the University of Bologna – is currently investigating and modelling trade and cultural interactions between urban level societies in South and Middle Asia during the Bronze Age (ca. 3200-1300 BC), with a specific focus on the Indus Civilization. The research of Dr. Frenez involves a wide range of theoretical and methodological approaches, including the study of ancient administrative and writing systems, traditional technologies and crafts and socio-economic and political organization. Dr. Frenez directed archaeological excavations in India and works on archaeological collections in collaboration with several museums and archaeological expeditions in India, the Sultanate of Oman, UAE, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, and established an extensive network of collaborations.

Biography:
Dr Cameron Petrie - Reader in South Asian and Iranian Archaeology
My research has focused on the investigation of early complex societies, and has a wide chronological and geographical scope that spans ancient South and West Asia. I have extensive field and research experience at archaeological sites dating from the Neolithic up to the medieval period in India, Pakistan and Iran, and have co-directed collaborative research projects in each of these countries.

Ms. Heidi Jennifer Miller

Biography

Heidi J. Miller’s doctoral dissertation reworks E.J.H. Mackay’s excavations at the site of Chanhu-daro and is being completed under the direction of the Department of Anthropology, Harvard University. Her research interests include formal aspects of material culture across landscape as well as through time, with an emphasis on pottery and human agency. Recently published research includes “Recently Documented Miniature Vessels from Chanhu-daro, Indus Valley c. 2600-1900 BCE,”in the journal Man and Environment(2014) and “Spiraling Interconnectedness: a fresh look at double-spiral headed copper pins in the Indian Subcontinent”, in the edited volume,Connections and Complexity: New Approaches to the Archaeology of South and Central Asia(2013). Currently she is exploring the nature of the Late Harappan phase in Sindh and teaching Anthropology and World Geography at Middlesex Community College.

Dr. Wright Rita Patricia

Biography

Rita Wright is a Professor of Anthropology at New York University. Her research interests include comparative studies of urbanism, state formation, gender, and cycles of change in early societies. In the field she has conducted research in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iran, and used secondary sources from Mesopotamia to study the organization of production. She specializes in ancient technologies with a focus on the production and distribution systems of ceramics and textiles and exchange networks. Wright’s major field work has been at the city of Harappa and a study that she directed of rural sites in a Landscape and Settlement survey along a now dry bed of the Beas River that ran parallel to the nearby Ravi River, where Harappa is located. She is especially interested in planned cities, their socio-political organization and management of their water technologies.

Mr. Atsushi Noguchi

Biography

Atsushi Noguchi is Academic Support Specialist of the University Museum, the University of Tokyo, Japan as a project researcher of the PalaeoAsia Project (http://paleoasia.jp/en), while he is a founder and Director-cum-Secretary General of Non-Profit Organization Japanese Centre for South Asian Cultural Heritage (NPO-JCSACH). He studies Palaeolithic archaeology of Japan, South Asia, as well as the Arabian Peninsula. He has experience of field works on Palaeolithic sites in Syria, Iran and Oman, while conducting a large-scale rescue excavation project in the Japanese Upper Palaeolithic site.

Mr. Hemphill Brian Edward

Biography:

Brian Hemphill graduated from the University of Oregon with a doctorate in anthropology in 1991. Over the course of the last quarter century he has held positions at Minnesota State University-Moorhead, Vanderbilt University, and California State University, Bakersfield. He currently serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks and as Director of the Centre of South Asian Dental Research housed at that institution. Dr. Hemphill has been engaged in biodistanceanalyses of ancient and modern populations of Central and South Asia since 1987.
